Casa De Fuego - Final Studio Project

This final project was intended to challenge us to build and design a residence on a particular topography, using similar methodologies and strategies from previous projects, that accommodated selected occupants with specific occupations.

My two occupants are a married couple with two children who all share every part of their dwelling excluding their work offices and bedrooms. The division between the two parent’s offices to the rest of the dwelling symbolizes the importance of having some sort of separation between an individual’s personal and profession life, especially to retain a healthy marital and domestic relationship.

The female is an Astrologist and her office is in the west-north end of the dwelling, which provides the best view of the sky and stars. The male occupant is a Meteorologist whose office is positioned in the east-north end of the house, which provides a great view of the entire typography. The parents share the rest of the volumes in this dwelling; in some cases together and others by themselves, but they never go into one another’s office space. This occurrence would cause the couple to disagree and argue among one another regarding their views in relation to their occupations. However, even though there isn’t a direct connection between the two office spaces; they are merely divided by a thin wall to imply that even though an Astrologist and Meteorologist have different views, they use many of the same tactics and methods to perform their jobs.

The bedroom volumes serve as a separation between the adults and the children to function as a space for privacy and harmony. The parent’s bedroom is located on the second floor in the south-west corner; which is near their work offices and the children’s bedroom is located right beneath the parent’s bedroom on the first floor south-west corner near the family room. This denotes that the family needs their individual spaces for privacy and tranquility, but at the same time are near one another throughout the dwelling. The separation between floors merely indicates that the first floor is for the family and the second floor is for the parent’s and their work; which is another depiction of the importance of having a clear balance between your personal and profession life.

In addition, I used different colors and materials to depict how the occupants use the spaces within the dwelling. In the following drawings and photographs the occupants' spaces are depicted as follows:

Red & Wax = Space used by only the Female Astrologist

Blue & Plaster = Space used by only the Male Meteorologist
Purple & Wax-Plaster Mix = Space shared by only the Two Adult Occupants
Green & Concrete = Space shared by only the Two Child Occupants
Black & Basswood =  Space shared by ALL the occupants (Adults & Children)
